knexsss I came in knowing all the demo songs were really good, but I was really afraid the slower beat was going to really make me not like it, well then "Jewel Case Days" (or just the last 3 songs) CE on and I was like woah...

Great Job, can't wait for more. Love the References from past songs Hidden in "She Looks Large" and "Jewel Case Days." Favorite track: Jewel Case Days.

I have a lot of people to thank for contributing to the making of this album, whether they know it or not. It dawned on me while I was making these songs that other than a triangle and a hi-hat cymbal, every instrument I used on this album was kindly given to me by somebody at some point in my life dating back to the mid '80s. Thanks to my grandparents for giving me a snare drum way back in the day. (It's the one I used on almost all these songs.) Thanks to Mom and Dad for the guitar and glockenspiel. Thanks to Ellen and Jerry for the piano. Thanks to Mary and Jim for paying to transport the piano to my house and for getting it tuned (also thanks for the recorder and Theremini). Thanks to Ben for the drum kit. Thanks to Kristin and Corey for the microphone and recording equipment. Thanks to Uncle Greg and the Catawba Cats for the ride cymbal. Thanks to everyone who has ever taken the time to listen to one of my songs. Special thanks to Marty Schwartz, M.A. Csortos, Neil Breen, and Randy Snutz (he knows why). Extra special thanks to my family for putting up with me working on these songs. This is an album I've been wanting to make for a very long time and it feels good to finally have it out in the world instead of just in my mind.

I know it sounds pretty ridiculous, but I first decided to make this album because of a tree. It was November 2023 and there was this tree a few streets over from my house with leaves that turned the most beautiful shade of orange, almost golden. I was driving on a sunny morning and the tree was so pretty that I actually had to stop driving for a bit and stare at it. (Don't worry, I didn't cause a traffic jam or anything.) But, within a few days, all the beautiful golden leaves had fallen off that tree, and it became totally bare.

OK, now how did this experience result in a collection of ten songs? Well, for starters it triggered an old memory of an idea I had back in the distant year 2000 when I first heard the album "Days of Future Passed" by the Moody Blues on my Sony Discman portable CD player and decided to someday make an album that follows the cycle of seasons from spring through winter. Part of the idea was that you could play the album on repeat and the cycle of seasons would go on forever.

But of course, it has been well documented that good things don't last forever. That beautiful tree I saw in November lost its leaves after a few days. Even stars eventually stop shining (it takes billions of years, of course). As many people have pointed out before me, good things always end. But we can choose to keep the memories of those good things alive in our minds. Until next time...
